Jörg Breiding was born in Hannover. This is where he studied music education, vocal pedagogy and German studies. Supplementing his training as a conductor at the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media, he studied conducting of choirs and orchestras with Prof Gerd Müller-Lorenz in Lübeck and Prof Heinz Hennig in Hannover. After working as the assistant of the founder of the choir, Prof Heinz Hennig, for one year, he took over as the conductor of the Knabenchor Hannover in January 2002. From 1998 to 2005 Jörg Breiding taught conducting of choirs at the University of Music Lübeck. Since 2005 he has been a professor for conducting at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. There, he founded the Folkwang Konzertchor and the Folkwang Vokalensemble, which he leads to this day.

At international concerts and festivals, Jörg Breiding has performed with well-known ensembles such as the Himlische Cantorey, Concerto Köln, Concerto Palatino, the Barockorchester L’Arco, the Hannoversche Hofkapelle, the Leipziger Barockorchester, Musica Alta Ripa, the Johann Rosenmüller Ensemble, the Ensemble Resonanz, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, and with members of the Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester, the Nürnberger Symphoniker and London Brass.

In the media, Jörg Breiding’s work is documented in radio productions for the NDR, WDR and MDR as well as in numerous CD recordings. The world premiere recording “Verleih uns Frieden – Geistliche Vokalmusik von Andreas Hammerschmidt” (“Verleih uns Frieden – sacred vocal music by Andreas Hammerschmidt”, Rondeau Production 2006) as well as the CD “Glaubenslieder – Neue Kantaten zum Kirchenjahr” (“Songs of faith – new cantatas for the ecclesiastical year”, Rondeau Production 2010), featuring among others the Knabenchor Hannover conducted by Prof Jörg Breiding, have both been awarded the ECHO Klassik as choral recording of the year.
