For the founder and long-time director of the choir, Heinz Hennig, one thing was very important: giving new life to musical treasures, such as “Schwanengesang” and the complete recording of the “Geistliche Chormusik 1648” by Heinrich Schütz. The Knabenchor achieved high recognition for its outstanding musical capability by participating in the complete recording of the sacral cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach, conducted by Gustav Leonhard and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

Under the direction of Prof Jörg Breiding, the Knabenchor Hannover has performed forgotten works such as the “Geistliche Vokalmusik” by Andreas Hammerschmidt, the “Marienvesper” by Johann Rosenmüller and the reconstruction of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Mark Passion, which were all released on CD. In addition, the choir has performed and recorded compositions from the 20th century like the “Magnificat” by John Rutter and the requiem “Schwarz vor Augen und es ward Licht!” by Harald Weiss. Since 2013, the first live concert recording on DVD has been available.
